I have two mature (two year old plus) lavenders -- I believe they are English -- woody stems, grow high, get grey and yellowish leaves nearer the bottom of the plant. Fragrant flowers, and can bloom bountifully twice (Northern California). They came with a native bush that I have not identified, and perhaps should have separated out, but it has way outgrown them, and I think maybe rather than try to move the larger bush, I might do better to move the lavenders?
I have just pruned back the lavenders, and I maintain the native by cutting it back regularly. I think it is a type of bay -- but no scent. I have seen similar ones on the Marin Headlands.
Main question is: can you transplant a more mature lavender successfully? If this is possible, what do you need to do?
