Why am I getting rain grass on my lawn?

My lawn all of a sudden has patches of lighter green grass,can I get rid of this grass without harming my lawn.

Yes, and it in the soil.  Consider this: mix 1/2 cup of honey with 1 gallon of sour milk, add 1/2 cup of baking powder (not soda) to the mix and 5 to 5 1/2 gallons of water.  Put this mixture in a watering can and dribbling it over the affected areas of your lawn.  It should only take one application of the mixture.  Results in 2 to 2 1/2 weeks, if you still have a problem, apply a second time (a second application is extremely rare!)  -Birdy
