how do I know when to pick my gourds

Its hot here in South Ga. My gourds are just now beginning to grow good. Do I pick them or let them dry on vine. When is the best time to pick.

depends how large you want them to grow...if they are just starting.....they might not be ready until end of sept or beginning of Oct......we used to pick them.wipe them clean..use a nail and make a hole in the bottom and hang them up to dry and then sprayed them with cheap hairspray to hold their color and used them later for fall decorations.  some people made wreaths out of them.  some people dry them out and carve them and varnish them.  they are very expensive in the store, you might be able to sell some.
