Why is my 3 year old Christmas cactus turning brown?

It was a yellow Christmas cactus that never bloomed much. This year it started to turn brown. Now it's all brown!

This could be due to lack of good natural light and under watering.  Sometimes artificial direct lamp light can keep plants from flowering especially if the lamp produces a lot of heat.  That may be why you haven't seen many blooms.  Bright indirect light is best.

Water the cactus thoroughly when the soil is dry.  If possible, try keeping it in a cool room around 60 degrees. The temperature will help set buds.  A cooler room should also keep the flowers blooming for longer.

its true that it needs alittle bit more water and i found if you would likw lots of blooms put outside under a tree in the summer but do not forget to keep watering it fairly well

I Had what I believe was a schwartkof plant. It had a purple head and shaped like open petals on a rose. It was suppose grow added brachs but never got to that point. Would you please  pass on the care of them as I was given another with no instructions.
