how do you ripen green tomatoes off the vine

Question

We live in Houston Texas area and our tomato plants are dying  i have pulled all the green tomatoes and now need to know how to ripen them - there are too many to let sit on the window sill.

Make fried green tomatoes from the big ones.

Do you have a big countertop out of the sun?

I put them in a brown paper bag.  They can be loose tomatoes or still on the vine tomatoes.  Then just set the bag out of your way.  They can all go together in the same bag.  Mine didn't ripen all at same time, it just depends on where they were in their growing period.  The dark green ones generally won't redden but give them (dk green) a few days in the bag to see if there is any change.  The light green ones will take from 1 to 7 days to redden.
