Putting organic material in you soil con only improve its life. We call garden ground soil not dirt because soil is alive. To keep it healthy add compost, or any broken down organic material often. Get a PH tester and test you soil to see what the PH level is. Most soil needs a little lime once a year. Check you PH chart for the vegetables you are growing. A 7 is a safe number for most gardens.
