It grew from scraps of harvested figs,. transplanted and is now approx. 10 years old. Inside is white and quite dry, and soften too early for the inside to mature.

See my answwer to the same question about green hard figs. Figs need plenty of sunlight and heat and water to produce large, soft and ripe figs. If your tree is being shaded by other trees or shrubs, do whatever you can to maximize the sunlight to the fig tree. Tenting with clear plastic in the early Spring as soon as you uncover it, will help produce good strong healthy leaves which are key to the life blood of the tree which is the sugars made by the leaves in photosynthesis. The tenting also speed the onset of the figs and thus they will mature before the nights get too cool in the Fall for photosynthesis to continue.

My Dad planted a fig tree in a patch of soil about 2 feet by three feet against the foundation of his brick house in brooklyn New York. The tree was totally surrounded by an all cement driveway. it had a southern exposure. The foundation of the house must have provided all the heat the tree needed because he only put a few plastic tablecothes over the tree for the winter and it thrived in that location. Apparently the cement driveway also provided the lime and heat that a fig tree thrives on. The tree had a scarcity of leaves but a tremendous amount of big ripe figs. That tree was always under stress and yet it produced ripe purple figs for the entire 15 years he lived there.
