how do I treat my star magnolia which has a white fungus on the branches

My star magnolia has a white fungus on the branches and a sticky black substance on some of the leaves

Spray your plant with weak vinegar and water in a mixture of 15% vinegar and 85% water.  Only once though, but repeat if necessary. -Birdy

that sounds like eggs were laid by some bug............I would mix up sevin according to directions..........after the sun goes down................wear protective clothing, old long clothes, mask, hat, gloves and goggles.................keep children & pets away................and spray.................read the label carefully............to see when you can do this again...............make sure to get under the branches and around under the tree.  In the fall..............do some dormant oil....follow the directions on the container and the same application above applies to this chemical also.
