will the leaves on my red bud tree re-grow after being eaten by deer?

I just planted a heart of gold red bud tree thinking it was on the deer resistant list. When I got up the next morning all of the leaves towards the bottom of the tree were raveged. It's planted right outside my front door and was supposed to be a decorative feature tree but now it looks awful. Will the leaves grow back and is there a way to keep the deer away without some nasty odors seeping into my house?

Assuming the deer did not strip the bark off the tree the leaves should grow back.

 

the tree will need fencing to keep the deer away and the fence will have to be strong and set several feet away from the trunk of the tree to be effective.  It's not going to look very pretty.

I have 80 fruit trees..........deer hate irish spring soap....I cut them in half and use wire covered in plastic and make it look like an ornament and hang it on the tree.  We had male deer with antlers damage the bark....used spectracide tree spray that has something to repair the damage........and we made cages for each tree with 4 ft chicken wire with a wooden stake that is tied with old cloth.  Deer just keep away....in the fall spray dormant oil on the tree....follow the directions on the container also again in the spring until the first buds emerge........after than I do the trunk to keep the caterpillers off.  Your tree will come back in the spring..
