if it's animals you need a 6 ft fence with a very fine added fence at the bottom for ground hogs & rabbits.  If it bugs you need to wait until the sun starts to go down mix 1 teasp liquid hand soap w 1 qt water put into sprayer and you might need to do it again when it rains.  Next make a ring of lime around the plants about  6 inches away.  They also now have veggies covers to keep bugs out and let light & water into the plant.  Now is the time to apply lime & old horse manure, leaves, hay, mulch and turn your soil today is April 1, 2014.

We planted 2 kinds of cabbage last year....red & green...............all of a sudden something was chewing the green.....not the red......I put some lime ring around them and left the 1 untouched and they must have been tiny animals because we had a 6 ft fence with a 1 ft fence at the bottom.  That green cabbage had the tiny little bites, must have happened at night because we were in & out of the garden all daylong and saw nothing.  I did not want to put traps because our 3 cats go down there.  We had yellow tapes on the tops of the fence and birds would not go in.  I am thinking voles or moles.  Cats took care of the mice and won't touch the voles or moles.
I did read on the internet that old flour sprinkle on the leaves help keep the white moths from laying eggs.......that would be as all naturl as you could get.
