cherry tree has no fruit this year, and a dead branch also looks like it has lichen, so is there anything we can do?

One branch is dead, there are leaves on the other branches.

Remove the dead branch and spray your tree with a weak solution of vinegar and water at a mixture rate of 30/70.  Spray in the morning and make sure that you cover almost all of the tree, this mixture will kill the lichen, it will take 2 - 4 weeks to kill the infection of lichen, spray every other day for about 10 days, and watch the results.  Repeat if necessary. -Birdy

after the sun passes over mix 2 1/2 tablespoons of 3% mecical hydrogen peroxide and 1 qt water and mix & spray.........wear old long clothing, goggles, mask, hat and gloves...........keep children and pets away until it dries.....do NOT spray on windy day and use all of this do NOT keep it...........and rinse your spray bottle out 2 times.....and spray out the excess water...........................in very late fall trim off the effected limb and spray it or coat it with tar, leaving the rest for spring right after the last snow....late fall do dormant oil....follow directions for how much for your tree.................wear all the equipment and same precautions....this smothers any other bugs and egg that have been hatched..........

Spray with dormant oil in the fall AFTER the leaves have dropped............trim in spring and spray as early as possible with dormant oil up to when the bud stage.........one the bud opens stop.........just spray the trunk.
