I have a very wet patch of grass.  Unfortunately I cannot afford to put drainage which is really what it needs.  Any suggestions on maybe what kind of tree I can plant that will absorb lots of water?

a weeping willow tree will soak up water, the more water the larger and faster the tree will grow.

Swamp maple............the only problem is the roots will surface away from the tree.....anything in the willow family will work well, but the only problem with them is they will get around any pipes and cause a problem.  Is there a way that you could trench the excess water and let it run off in a pipe with holes in it, to make that a drier area?
