Inconsistent watering can cause it, keep soil evenly moist but not soaked. Also calcium and or magnesium deficiency will do it. Dig in 1/2 cup crushed egg shells (calcium), and tablespoon of Epsom Salts (magnesium). Also make calcium water with eggshells in the blender and water the plants with this every 2 weeks. Can also buy a blossom spray to help but is more costly than ammending the soil and has to be done frequently. Do a soil nutrient test before planting to find out what the soil needs

When that happens, I pick the tomatoes when they turn orange and bring them inside to rippen.  Some people like to take them off and let them rippen outside in the sun.

When your take your plants out of the ground in the fall.....bag & trash them............and add lime to your soil  If you add egg shells, you can blend them with couple cups of water for them to break down faster in your soil.

I don't like to use chemicals, so if you ever see bugs on your garden plants use 1 teasp of liequid soap & 1 qt of water and spray after the sun has passed.  some peope use a weeper hose for consistent watering and just turn it off when it rains.
