You don't mention where you are, the variety of the tomato plants or the lemon tree.  Are there holes for drainage in the containers?  Was it a brand new bag of soil?  How are you watering the containers.

I have tomatoes in large polyvinyl containers with lots of holes in the boor drainage.  Because these things (trugs) are on my patio and it gets to be over 100 degrees where I am they are also sitting on plant dollies.

Tomatoes need water when the soil is dry a couple of inches down or when the leaves look wilty in the MORNING.  Here there is little chance of overwatering container plants in the late spring or summer.  the water drains out.  You'd have to water three or four times a day or have a saucer under the plant that is kept full of water all the time.

If there are no holes in the bottom on their containers, they are soggy and not happy. While they like to be thoroughly wet occassionaly, they don't like to do the backstroke. Put holes in the bottoms or transplant them into conatainers with proper drainage.
