A branch of my Rose of Sharon appears to be dying.

Part of the bark appears to have been stripped.  I cannot see any pests.  I know we have rabbits in our yard but the branch is about 4 feet off the ground.  I haven't seen any deer in our neighbourhood.  The leaves on the rest of the plant appear to be healthy.

You can trim that branch.  Deer travel very late at night.......chew things 3 ft or more off the ground with ragged bites.  If you are seeing ragged bites you can wait for the sun to go over and let the plant cool off, mix 2 tablespoons dawn & 1 qt tap water with 3 or more drops of hot sauce.................Check your lawn for dark brown droppings.
