white oak leaves eaten

Question

do I need to spray my large white oak if all the leaves have been eaten?  There are many caterpillers under the rocks around it.  Little flying bugs go in and out of the bark.  Will it live or do I need to do something?  It is close to the house and provides lots of shade.  I do not want to lose it!

It sounds like you should get a professional to spray for catapillars. If it goes more than 2 consecutive years your tree may be doomed.A good spray with seven or with malithion will kill the critters but you should again treat with a colic oil spray to kill any over wintering critters that will just want to dine on your oak.Please check for any small no gels on leaves as this may be a sign of oak gall which in turn can hurt your trees
