I live in a very urban area. It is a little more compact than a suburb area. Can it be beside other fruit and vegetable plants (strawberries, eggplant, tomatoes...etc) or by a shed or sidewalk?

Should be 25 ft between regular trees but you  should choose dwarf.....as they grown shorter...........veggies & strawberries don't count........don't know how much property you have but 12 to 20 ft from house.  roots do not come up like some maple & oak do..........the reason for distance is so they can ventilate.  I would keep the 12 ft away from sideways and other foundations.  Remember to spray dormant oil in the fall & spring up to when the bud opens.  Then I stop and only spray the trunk.  We need bees & butterflies to polunate them.  I had dwarf fruit trees all around our little house and it sure kept it cooler.  Good luck with your fall crop!

Thank you so much!
It's almost spring, time for your dormant oil spray up to bud stage and then just the trunk.  also check the ph...you might need lime...we do the old horsemanure in the fall and lime round the trees in the spring.  PH is 6.0-7.5
