the daylilies sound like possible slugs and snails. Try baiting with pie tins of beer or a snail bait that contains iron phosphate.
The zinnias might also be snails and slugs or possibly earwigs. Try rolling up a couple of sheets of dampened newspaper and putting the rolls out under the plants overnight. go out in the morning and if you find earwigs in these traps then roll them up and put them in the garbage and continue to bait in the same manner nightly. Check out an insecticidal soap to see if it specifically kills earwigs if the newspaper trick works for you. If so you can spray with plants with it as directed on the label.
