how do I make sandy soil?

Question

have a Juniperus horisontalis and it says that it likes well drained sandy soil.

My sub soil (where the roots of the plant will be) is clay, clay, and more clay -- soil is very shallow.

So I need to know how to make sandy soil from other components so I can plant the Juniper.

ALSO how much wider that the plant (1-2 gal) should I make the hole and how deep in relation to the nursery pot?

clay soil is hard............can you remove some and use it somewhere else to level ground and replace it with outside soil, and mix with mulch and sand to make it sandy soil...........use a cultivator.............is there any other area that is better soil.  How large do they grow and how deep the roots.  You might need to keep that away from the house or foundations, septic systems, drains field and pipes in & out.
