Can I cut dead iris off the stems?

I have the biggest, prettiest iris, but there are buds on stems where flowers have already died.  The dead flowers are hard to pull off and they detract from the  blossoms that are not dead or have not opened on the same stalk.

Yes, just cut off the dead flowers at the base of it.  No need to pu;; of the flower heads, which is a long and time consuming task, nip the dead flower at the base.  It will not harm your plant, and will actually help it. -Birdy
