I have a multi-stemmed cedar, with three failing stems (out of 11). the arborists came today to take out the three. They climbed up the main stem and one of the larger ones, and cut out not only the dead wood, but also a LOT of live wood--on the stems that we are going to keep. I asked them to take out as little as possible (I realize they needed to clear a path for their operations). They said not to worry-- that it will all "branch out again" when the remaining stems get more sunlight, as they obviously will, now that 3 of the stems and a lot of dead wood are removed. Since i've never noticed in an evergreen the kind of regrowth they are describing, I'm wondering if this is accurate?
