The vine still produce.....the butternut squash should be ready.....take the biggest ones first......leave 3 to 4 inch stems.....don't lift by the stem....carry in a basket.....wipe them down and let them dry before putting them into a cold basement or root cellar......for the buttercup....when the shiny fruit get real dark green and dull it is time to cut them off....also leaving 3 to 4 inch stems. doing the same process to get them into storage..................when you cut them open to cook them.....you can save the seeds on paper plates....wash them first.....then let them dry out.......and replant next year....save them in a cool dry place....mark them with name & date taken.
