why are my zuchini plants dying

I planted five zuchini plants.  Two are hugh with stalks as tall as 3 to 3 and half feet and leaves more than 12 inches wide.  But several are turning brown and curling, and the stalk will yellow and soften.

The same thing is now happening with the three smaller plants.  I have zuchini and most of the plants but I have also picked off several 2 to 3 inch zuchini that rotted.

Is there anything I can do to save the crop?
