Yes, from my experience.  I put three cores from a package of romaine in a bowl with some water.  Within 2-3 days two of them began growing.  New leaves are growing from the center of the cores.  No sign of any roots.  Now I don't know what to do next.  The leaves are about two inches tall now.  Should I put them in soil, wait for roots, or keep them in water?
