My tree is six years old now and every year when the fruit becomes about golf ball sized, they just fall off.

Check your soil, it could mean that the soil is too high of the ph factor.  Get about a 1/2 gallon of rotten milk and pour that at the base of the peach tree, do that maybe 4 times and it will cure your problem.  It should take 1 - 2 months before you see the leaves of the tree greener and the budding of the flowers much brighter. It will not stop the tree from dropping its fruit this year, but will allow the fruit to fully mature next season. -Birdy
Sounds like you need to trim that tree late fall.  If the tree has too many buds on the branchs it produces smaller fruit....When you have 1/2 the buds the tree produces the same amount of weight of larger fruit and less smaller fruit but equals to the same weight...
ph should be 6.0 to 8.0
