can you plant a plum seed to grow a plum tree?

do u have to but a tree alresdy growing or can u plant a plum pit and start from there?  what kind of sunlight/shade would be ideal?

THey would take years to grow and some don't do well, they are usually grafted and grow in full sun need to be sprayed fall & spring into bud stage.......one buds open I only spray the trunk.  You need bees for polunation so also plants flowers for the bees.  PH 5.0-6.5
