Why do houseplant leaves turn brown on tips?

Why do the tips of my peace lily and corn plant (indoors) turn brown? Is there too much water, or not enough, or does it need fertilizer or a more sunny location?

 

I need help with this as I have two large plants with this happening to. Thanks!

You might need to put them in a slightly larger pot with some stones in the bottom with a hole in the bottom and use new soil with the vitamins.  Peace lilly like indirect light but no sun to touch the plant. With the other plant you need to water every 7 to 10 days....they like day temps 75 to 80 and night time 65 to 70....they need to be fertilized every 6 months.  Walmart has a tester for if the plant needs to be watered. This also likes low light conditions.

I no longer have brown edges on any of my houseplants since I've been watering only with rainwater collected from my rainbarrels.  Brown edges and build up of chemicals on pots and soil are a given when I use tap water.
