How to dead head mums

I do not know where to cut the stem when dead heading my mums so that they will continue to bloom.

As soon as the current blossoms turn brownish I'd cut them back straight across about 3-6" down.  the new buds develop really fast so cut the old blossoms promptly otherwise you have to make a choice between a straight cut where you would loose some of the buds and cutting each stem individually to salvage the new buds.
